Purex Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Review & Giveaway

Hello everyone and welcome to another review & giveaway sponsored by Purex
Thank you Purex for letting me review your Purex Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar for free and for providing me three coupons for a giveaway.

My Review

My first impression of this product was that it had a pretty strong scent. It smells kinda home-y/woods-y  (?) I'm not completely sure of the scent, but it wasn't a bad scent in my opinion. My second impression was the look/size of it. It's like a rectangle soap bar and feels about the same. Now, for my test. Honestly, I didn't have any stains to test it on, but I did promise a review for this on my Facebook and Twitter, so as promised, here is that review. Since I didn't have any stains already, I decided to purposely stain my daughter's old shirt to test it. I stained it using fruit juice, the leading cause of the stains in my household. Yes, even at 13, my daughter is still so clumsy... she probably got it from me ^^;.
Anyway, I put my hand behind it (to simulate your stomach/skin in general) and squeezed some on.

Then, I used a napkin and pressed it on the juice (to simulate you trying to sop it up).

Naturally, it still stains.

I let it stay in for 30 min. to simulate leaving it alone for a while until doing laundry later. Then, I did the whole stain pre-treating process with the laundry bar. I wet the stain and then rubbed it on.

It rubbed on with a yellow stain and I was kind of skeptical about it putting a stain on the stain. (I've never used a laundry bar before, so I had no clue what it would do.) It also foamed up a little like regular soap.
Now, technically, you are supposed to wait for a minute after rubbing it on before throwing it into the laundry. However, I was curious to see what would happen if I just rinsed it out by hand. So, I did and the result was that the shirt was completely clean after just the hand rinse. (Sorry about the lighting. I moved to another room, so I don't know if you can tell if it did anything.)

Overall, after my test, I think it's effective on fruit juice stains. I don't know about other types of stains, so I can't really say that I definitely recommend it. However, I did read another blog's post and they did a more thorough stain test and you can check that out here before deciding if you want to buy it or not.

Also, I just want to say that besides using it as a stain pre-treater, you can also use it to boost your laundry.

Anyway, I hope you liked the review!
Again, if you have a product that you've always wanted to try, but you want another opinion, go ahead and contact us. We'd be happy to go, buy it, and write a review as long as we can afford it :).

Disclosure: I received the product mentioned above for free from Purex in exchange for a review. Regardless, all the opinions expressed above are my own and your opinions may differ from mine.

  1. I use this product to make homemade laundry detergent. I didn't know that you could use it to get stains out. I will have to try it on Hubby's clothes. Thanks for sharing.
